The Virtual Pediatric Airways Workbench, or VPAW, is an application that enables surgeons and other medical professionals to simulate and interact with airways constructed from segmented CT scans. Clinicians use either a PHANTOM haptic device or a Razer Hydra in conjunction with stereoscopic viewing and a foot-pedal control to navigate and interact with the structure of the airways.  VPAW is intended to provide medical professionals with an interface to test various surgical techniques before performing them on live patients.  The methods used to interact with the airways are focused on adapting the haptic device to manipulate geometry.  We perform regular tests with medical professionals to focus our efforts on features that will be directly beneficial to their work.
